Latarjet Procedure

Description

This virtual demonstration outlines the Latarjet procedure, primarily aimed at restoring shoulder stability. The procedure begins with a small incision near the coracoid, followed by careful dissection to expose the relevant anatomical structures, including the pectoral muscle and the clavi-pectoral fascia. The next steps involve division of the coracoacromial (CA) ligament and further exposure of the muscle insertions associated with the coracoid.

The coracoid process is prepared by clearing soft tissue and osteotomizing it using a saw to achieve a specific segment length. Throughout the procedure, meticulous attention is given to protecting surrounding anatomy, notably the brachial plexus. The final preparation of the coracoid includes drilling holes in the bone for future fixation. These actions ensure that the coracoid is adequately prepped to facilitate healing and structural integrity when reattached to the glenoid. Clear marking with cautery is also employed for orientation during the surgery.
