Crash Course in Orthopaedics: Lessons From a 12-Week Webinar Series for Medical Students

Description

In this presentation, Catherine James, a final-year medical student, discusses a project focused on a 12-week webinar series in orthopedics that was adapted due to the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. She highlights the significance of the medical education landscape during the pandemic and explains that the intention behind the project was to identify elements that make a webinar series successful. Catherine shares insights gained from conducting the series, which was designed according to the BOA undergraduate syllabus and utilized platforms like Zoom for delivery. She outlines key themes from participant feedback: interactivity, content, and accessibility, emphasizing that students favored interactive elements such as Q&A sessions and case studies. Catherine also notes the popularity of the webinars, with over 3,600 attendees, primarily composed of clinical medical students. The presentation concludes with an acknowledgment of the challenges faced, including varying quality among speakers and the need for data comparison, as well as future aspirations for implementing the series into the Cardiff C21 curriculum to enhance medical education.
