BOSTAA Travelling Fellow Presentation

Description

In this presentation, Matt Hampton discusses his experience with a traveling fellowship he received from BOSTAA, funded by Arthrex, which he undertook in May of this year. He emphasizes the importance of applying for the fellowship, detailing the process and benefits, including the opportunity to travel and learn from leading figures in knee research and cartilage surgery.

Hampton highlights his decision to work with notable professionals, Alan Getgood in London, Ontario, and Brian Cole in Chicago, focusing on their respective areas of expertise. He describes Getgood’s impressive research background and the collaborative environment at the Fowler Kennedy Clinic, where a unique clinic layout maximizes efficiency in patient care and research involvement. He notes the significant amount of research they conduct, indicating that every patient is either recruited for studies or has outcome scores collected.

Transitioning to Chicago, he shares insights about Brian Cole’s high-volume practice and dual theater setups, where he specializes in cartilage repair and works closely with various sports teams, including the Bulls. Hampton appreciates the resources available in the United States, particularly in cartilage repair techniques.

Throughout the fellowship, he acknowledges personal and professional growth, emphasizing the importance of teamwork in effective research. He encourages fellow medical professionals to apply for the BOSTAA fellowship, underscoring its value in enhancing career prospects and fostering connections within the field.
