Carpal Tunnel Release
Description
This video provides a detailed overview of the carpal tunnel release procedure conducted by Professor Bijayendra Singh under local anesthesia. It begins with the administration of a local anesthetic containing xylocaine and adrenaline before the incision is made. The surgical markings are applied using Kaplan's line, and an incision is created using a size 15 blade. The procedure involves carefully navigating through the skin, fascia, and transverse carpal ligament to release pressure on the median nerve.
Throughout the operation, Professor Singh emphasizes the importance of patient communication, checking for comfort, and maintaining proper hemostasis to minimize bleeding. The retraction technique is employed to visibly confirm adequate release of the nerve. Following the incision, bipolar diathermy is utilized to achieve hemostasis before closing the incision with 4-0 nylon sutures.
The entire procedure is completed in under 10 minutes, with careful attention to avoid complications such as painful scars. Post-operative care includes the application of an adhesive dressing and guidance on finger mobility, with suture removal scheduled for two weeks later. This informative video is ideal for those interested in understanding the intricacies of carpal tunnel surgery.
