Adult Pathology - Mirel's Score

Description

OrthoM8 is an educational platform created by Harry Benjamin-Laing, aimed at providing comprehensive learning on orthopedic topics. In the latest installment, the focus is on the Mirel's Score, an important tool used to assess the need for prophylactic fixation in patients with bone tumors. The Mirel's Score consists of four key components: 1) Pain intensity categorized as mild, moderate, or functional, 2) The anatomical site of the lesion, which can be in the upper limb, lower limb, or peri-trochanteric area, 3) The size of the lesion, evaluated based on its diameter relative to the bone on X-rays—specifically, one third, between one third and two thirds, or more than two thirds, and 4) The type of lesion, classified as blastic, mixed blastic and lytic, or lytic. Each component receives a score out of three, and the cumulative score determines the necessity for prophylactic fixation; a higher score indicates a stronger need for intervention. The session concludes with a call to action for viewers to subscribe and like the content.
